CNC Software released their latest maintenance update yesterday for Mastercam X4.

Well its been sometime since I have posted, haven’t had much time.

Been doing alot at work lately and Mastercam has been performing pretty good. The only real problem I have had lately is getting the Work Offsets to stick when programming horizontals with multiple work offsets.

For some reason all the planes work like they used to, but getting the work offsets to stick seem to be different. I have been programming horizontals and using the WCS to set planes for years now, I find myself having to go back and reassign the T-plane to get the workoffset to post right.

Other than that, I have been using the Project Surface path alot and it’s great! Have been doing alot of odd ball stuff that for surfacing and haven’t had luck on finding an efficient toolpath to create things. Then I found the Project path.

Been creating 2d paths how I want then “Ghost” them for posting, then grabbing Surface Project and project that 2d path on the surfaces I want and works great and efficient.

Been reading and there is some rumor about an MU3 for X4 coming up.

I do not exactly know what another Maintenance release will do prior to the next version of Mastercam coming out, but I would suggest that if there are that many lingering issues with the latest release, CNC Software should just do a simple Service Pack/Patch and focus on X5.

This is just my 2 cents.

I haven’t had too much time on the MU2 for X4 until the last 2 days. I will say that many things seemed to run better.

I was using all sorts of things I typically use from Surfacing paths to 2d contour and drilling. Even used the Verify Compare alot on the current set of parts I am using, for some reason seems to render much faster than previous uses of it.

Well upon trying to resort some drill points today, X4 MU2 crashed on me. I was just telling a guy I haven’t had a crash in a while. Shouldn’t do that again.

Actually, I wouldn’t even mention it other than the fact that I let Mastercam send the Crash Report with my email address and I got a, what seems to be a semi-automatic response saying that the issue was logged and sent to a programmer along with a Crash Report number.

I was actually impressed, this was the FIRST time I have ever got something back from sending in all those Crash Reports. Maybe all the fuss is starting to get CNC Software’s attention that a little bit of feedback goes along way….Or maybe they can tell our Maintenance is almost up and this is there attempt at doing some PR for the next renewal.

We may never know.

Hopefully this will go a little smoother then the last 2 of the X4 family.

Used it for a brief time today, didn’t notice anything different, so hopefully will perform well.
